Gravitational Wave Induced Rotation of the Plane of Polarization of Pulsar Signals

چکیده

We derive in this an expression for the rotation of plane of polarization, of an electromagnetic wave, induced by the field of a gravitational wave propagating along the same direction ≈ GμdΩ 3ω , ω and Ω being their respective frequencies using the geometrical optics limit of the wave equation for fields. Estimating the effect for the case of pulses from binary pulsars, one finds it too small to be observable, there could be other sources like inspiralling binary or an asymmetric neutron star where the effect could be in the observable region. 04.30.Nk , 42.15.i, 97.60Gb, 97.80d

The rotation of polarization by gravitational waves

There are conflicting statements in the literature about the gravitational Faraday rotation of the plane of polarization of polarized electromagnetic radiation travelling through a gravitational wave. This issue is reconsidered using a simple formalism describing the rotation of the plane of polarization in a gravitational field, in the geometric optics approximation. It is shown that, to first...

Theoretical Analysis of Polarization Rotation angle in Dual Reflector Antenna

Because of special structure, a dual reflector antenna has beam rotation capability in azimuth and elevation directions. In this structure, the antenna beam can be placed in any point in the space by mechanical movement of twist reflector which it is the most important ability of the antenna. Due to the antenna structure, if the polarization of incident wave is linear, it is expected that the p...

Determination of Linear Polarization and Faraday Rotation of Pulsar Signals from Spectral Intensity Modulation

Most of the known pulsars are sources of highly linearly polarized radiation. Faraday rotation in the intervening medium rotates the plane of the linear polarization as the signals propagate through the medium. The Rotation Measure (RM), which quantifies the amount of such rotation as a function of wavelength, is useful in studying the properties of the medium and in recovering the intrinsic po...

Propagation effects in pulsar magnetospheres

Refraction and polarization transfer in an ultrarelativistic highly magnetized pulsar plasma are considered. Normal waves in the pulsar plasma are linearly polarized however circular polarization arises in the polarization limiting region if radiation propagates at an angle to the plane of the magnetic field lines. The rays go off this plane due to refraction or (and) due to rotation of the mag...

Detecting beyond-Einstein polarizations of continuous gravitational waves

The direct detection of gravitational waves with the next-generation detectors, like Advanced LIGO, provides the opportunity to measure deviations from the predictions of general relativity. One such departure would be the existence of alternative polarizations. To measure these, we study a single detector measurement of a continuous gravitational wave from a triaxial pulsar source. We develop ...
